For the first time, the Sherlock Holmes Society of London and the Baker Street Irregulars have come together in a publishing venture to celebrate the life of the great Holmesian and Doylean scholar, Richard Lancelyn Green.
His untimely death made worldwide headlines in 2004, as did the news of his wish that his phenomenal collection be left to the Portsmouth Library. An important exhibition of some of the many thousand items in the Bequest opened in 2007 and scholars and visitors will be able to benefit hugely from what the Library is doing with the enormous volume of material they inherited.
The Editors have collected a wide variety of memories of, and tributes to, Richard from a myriad of friends and admirers. There are personal thoughts from Richard’s mother and siblings, tributes from Douglas Wilmer and Owen Dudley Edwards and many other contributions covering the broad interests held by Richard.
