Edited by Richard Lancelyn Green
102 Pages

There is no evidence in the Canon that Sherlock Holmes ever visited Liverpool. He certainly didn’t consider there was a need to do so to solve the mystery behind the gruesome contents of the cardboard box opened by Miss Susan Cushing.

But this did not stop the Society, under the expert leadership of Richard Lancelyn Green, making their way to Liverpool and New Brighton in 2003 to seek out the sites associated with the crime.

Richard makes a substantial contribution to a handbook including articles on The Cardboard Box, New Brighton and Croydon, the premier of William Gillette’s play in Liverpool, Conan Doyle’s connection with the City, Lever Brothers, Basil Rathbone and his family, and other topics. A total of 17 articles packed into 100 plus pages.

Overseas members of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London have always needed to pay higher subscription rates than UK based members to cover the extra cost of postage and packaging for mailing the Sherlock Holmes Journal outside the UK. The Society is now changing the way it presents its membership prices so that the subscription is the same for UK and non-UK members, but the additional postage and packaging that are associated with overseas membership is now added on as a separate postage cost.

If you are looking to buy membership as a gift or multiple memberships, or if you experience difficulty with applying online, please contact the Membership Secretary: membership@sherlock-holmes.org.uk.
