Description

We are pleased to present to members the Society’s latest publication.   Sarah Obermuller-Bennett has been collecting classic postcards with a Holmesian theme for many years – and here presents gems from her collection and provides fascinating background research for each example.

William Gillette appears in various guises – but what do you know of Icelandic actor Bjarni Bjornsson in 1912?   What is interesting about Exeter’s Theatre Royal on a 1907 postcard, or one of a Hastings shoemaker holding a marrow in 1917?   Why was the museum in Aurillac significant in 1910, or a brand of shoe-heels in 1904?   All is revealed in this sumptuously-illustrated glossy volume.   With e-mail already so passé, Sarah’s enthusiasm for communication from an earlier age shines through on every page, casting light on a wonderful area of Sherlockiana.

Prices will be based upon your Shipping Address so may change based on where you want the products to be shipped to.

Overseas members of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London have always needed to pay higher subscription rates than UK based members to cover the extra cost of postage and packaging for mailing the Sherlock Holmes Journal outside the UK. The Society is now changing the way it presents its membership prices so that the subscription is the same for UK and non-UK members, but the additional postage and packaging that are associated with overseas membership is now added on as a separate postage cost.

If you are looking to buy membership as a gift or multiple memberships, or if you experience difficulty with applying online, please contact the Membership Secretary: membership@sherlock-holmes.org.uk.
