“Play the game for the game’s own sake”

On Sunday the 25th June, the Gentlemen of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London (who may, as on some previous occasions, include a Lady or two) will return to West Wycombe.

There, on the loveliest cricket ground in the country, they will once again face the “Gold Bats” of the P.G. Wodehouse Society, in a match played to the somewhat arcane Laws of 1895 – which you can read here:
Cricket Laws 1895

Two days later, the magnificent depiction – shown above – of last year’s match, by the former England international wicket keeper and batsman Jack Russell MBE, will feature prominently in an exhibition of Mr Russell’s work at Chris Beetles Gallery.

The Gallery is always worth a visit even without the connection to the Sherlock Holmes Society of London!
You’ll find it at 8 & 10 Ryder Street, St James’s, London SW1Y 6QB.
