The events of the traditional long weekend – 16th to 19th May – began on Thursday with the Annual General Meeting, followed by an extraordinary and brilliant presentation by our American member David Houle, BSI.
On Friday there was a walk in the footsteps of Mycroft Holmes, from the Foreign Office in Whitehall to the Diogenes Club (all right, the Athenaeum Club) in Pall Mall, visiting both venerable institutions.
On Saturday we explored the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, marvelling at the beautiful blossoms and the poisonous plants, and briefly living the life of a bee in The Hive.
Finally, on Sunday we visited two of London’s secret jewels: the Old Operating Theatre, built in 1822, and the Charterhouse, which dates from the mid-14th century.
