Three Minute Problems
July 21, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
“Stand back! Stand right back!” said he with the sharp imperiousness which I had associated only with moments of crisis. “…it is horribly contagious. Keep your distance and all is well.”
The Society’s Spring Meeting was, of course not held on Friday 20th March 2020 at The National Liberal Club at 1, Whitehall Place, London, SW1. In common with many other societies and organisations around the world we are taking advantage of the wonders of modern technology and moving this meeting online using Zoom. It will now be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 21st July, British Summer Time. The meeting will be open from 7.15pm to allow everyone to get connected in good time.
Several of our members very kindly volunteered to speak for up to 3 minutes on any topic relating to the Sherlock Holmes stories. At the time of writing, most have now agreed to give this using Zoom. The talks may be serious or tongue in cheek. The Chairman will keep speakers strictly to the three minutes allotted, which may be easier using Zoom – he has threatened merely to mute anyone who goes over their allotted time! We still intend that the order of speaking will be decided by names drawn from a hat. We will, as we would have at a physical meeting, give members the chance to comment on and discuss the theories put forward using Zoom chat and / breakout rooms, to allow us to retain at least something of the social side of a normal meeting. We will also vote on them to decide which is the most convincing, or maybe the most entertaining presentation.
There will be no charge for attending this meeting. Please supply your own favourite tipple.
Jane Arnold-Forster has very kindly agreed to host the meeting, which is open to all members and to those interested in Sherlock Holmes world-wide. It will, however, be a private meeting, so if you would like to attend, please email Jane at firstname.lastname@example.org by 18th July, so she can send you the meeting details. We hope people will feel able to use their cameras, but if you prefer not to appear on screen, that’s fine. Do remember that if you are not able to use Zoom, the meeting will have the option to dial in using a telephone.
We look forward to seeing everyone on the night.
