Three Locks for Holmes to Pick!
May 20 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us online at Westminster Libraries for a talk with author Bonnie MacBird as she talks about the research for her fourth Sherlock Holmes novel “The Three Locks”
Sherlockian author Bonnie MacBird returns for a fourth visit to our library in celebration of THE THREE LOCKS, the fourth of her Sherlock Holmes novels for HarperCollins. She’ll be giving a short talk on the research that went into this Victorian thriller- including the famous History of Locks Museum, the Jesus Lock in Cambridge, the famous Cavendish laboratory at the University and a bit of Victorian conjuring.
Professional actors Jonathan LeBillon and Dominic Brewer will join Bonnie in a dramatic reading as Holmes and Watson, and she’ll take questions from the audience. The Three Locks (a standalone novel – each of Bonnie’s books can be read independently) is a traditional Conan-Doyle style adventure.
“1886. A heatwave melts London as Holmes and Watson are called to action on three new cases. In Whitechapel, a renowned Italian escape artist dies spectacularly onstage during a performance, immolated in a gleaming copper cauldron of his wife’s design. In Cambridge, the runaway daughter of a famous don drowns, her long blonde hair tangled in the Jesus Lock on the River Cam. And in Baker Street, a malevolent locksmith exacts an unusual price to open a small silver box sent to Watson.”
Bonnie, who writes full time in a flat just off Baker Street has been mad for Holmes since the age of ten and is considered by many to be among the very best writing him in traditional style today. The Washington Post‘s Michael Dirda called her last novel The Devil’s Due “the best Sherlock Holmes novel of recent memory”, Crime Reads says “she could be Conan Doyle reincarnated”
