Spring Meeting 2022
March 10, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The Society’s Spring Meeting will be held on Thursday 10th March 2022 at The University Women’s Club at 2 Audley Square, London, W1K 1DB, at 6.00pm for 6.45pm.
Please note this is not our usual venue for the March Meeting. The University Women’s Club is located in Mayfair and the nearest underground stations are Hyde Park Corner or Green Park, with Bond Street a little further away. Dress is smart casual and gentlemen are asked to wear a jacket and tie. As in most London clubs, tee-shirts and trainers are not acceptable.
Members and their guests may opt to attend the meeting only at £15.00/US$19 per head, or to dine beforehand at a cost of £48.00/US$60 per head. This includes VAT and service but not drinks, which must be paid for on the day. For those who choose to dine, the meal will comprise two courses: Guinea Fowl with Roasted Parsnips & Carrots, Creamy Mash, Beurre Noisette and Pear, Ginger & Cinnamon Tarte Tatin. A vegetarian alternative main course may be ordered in advance. If you wish for the vegetarian alternative or have other dietary requirements, please advise the Meetings Secretary by email at the time you book. The email address is advised below. A cash bar will be available from which coffee may also be obtained. Dinner will be served promptly at 6.45pm in the Dining Room and will be followed by the meeting itself in the Library from around 8pm.
As to the theme of our meeting, ‘I would not tell them too much,’ said Holmes. ‘Women are never to be entirely trusted — not the best of them.’ Whereas Dr Watson had ‘…an experience of women which extends over many nations and three separate continents.’ Our panel of four speakers will contribute their views on various aspects of the female characters in the Canon. If you are attending the meeting and would like to make a three-minute contribution from the floor, then your input would be welcome. Please let the Meetings Secretary know by email at shslmeetings@sherlock-holmes.org.uk by the 1st March. Please include your name, and your topic. If time permits further contributions from the floor will be welcome.
Applications to attend should be sent to arrive not later than Wednesday 2 March.
Anyone attending a Society function for the first time should advise the Meetings Secretary by email, so that we can identify them and introduce them to our members. We look forward to seeing everyone on the night. If an acknowledgement of booking is required, please provide an e-mail address or a stamped, addressed envelope with your application.
The Society likes to keep a record of its activities, including photographs of our meetings which are published in the Journal and on the Society’s website/Facebook page. If you do not want to appear in a Society photograph please avoid being in any posed photographs and advise one of the meeting organisers.
