“Sherlock Holmes and the Cornwall Affair” – in Switzerland!
February 25 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
SHERLOCK HOLMES and the CORNWALL AFFAIR
February 25th at 7.00pm Greenwich Mean Time (8.00pm Swiss time)
Our friends in the Reichenbach Irregulars have already hosted two well-received talks online during the current period of global restrictions. The next will be a reading from Johanna Rieke’s acclaimed novel Sherlock Holmes and the Cornwall Affair (see the review in the current Sherlock Holmes Journal).
Johanna is a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London, and as many will know she and her husband Bryan Stone first met during the Society’s seventh pilgrimage to Switzerland in 2012. She has so far published six exciting and atmospheric Sherlock Holmes novels in German, and is working on the seventh.
“Do you love Cornwall, with its cliffs and breakers, sleepy fishing harbours and villages? Would you like to meet a real English Lord? And do you enjoy an authentic, well researched historical crime story? With the author you will accompany the renowned Baker Street detective, Sherlock Holmes, and his friend Dr Watson, on their journey to Cornwall. There, in idyllic surroundings, they are faced with seemingly impenetrable questions, leading to desperate villainy. A fifty-year-old history of intrigue, smuggling, betrayal, murder and revenge waits to be revealed, and you are there, with Holmes and Watson.”
On the 25th of February, Johanna and Bryan will present a reading from this, the first of Johanna’s novels to be translated into English by Bryan. (The second is Sherlock Holmes and the Thames Murders. Both are published by MX.)
Sherlock Holmes and the Cornwall Affair was proposed for the 2019 Swiss Book Prize.

The Reichenbach Irregulars of Switzerland, the first Swiss Sherlock Holmes Society, was founded in Meiringen on 24 June 1989 by a dynamic group of young Sherlockians led by Marcus Geisser. During the 1990s, the Reichenbach Irregulars organised meetings in Switzerland and Southern Germany, published The Reichenbach Journal and the newsletter The Young Swiss Messenger. Since 2000, the Reichenbach Irregulars organise international expert conferences about Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle. These gatherings regularly happen in Swiss alpine resorts and attract an audience from across the globe.
