“Might I trouble you for a match?” – Cricket vs the Gold Bats
On Sunday the 19th June, the Gentlemen of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London (who may, as on some previous occasions, include a Lady or two) will return to West Wycombe.
There, on the loveliest cricket ground in the country, they will once again face the “Gold Bats” of the P.G. Wodehouse Society, in a match played to the somewhat arcane Laws of 1895 – which you can read here: Cricket Laws 1895
The match will commence at 11.30 a.m.
Do please come and give our players your support!
Meet friends, old and new, in a delightful setting, overlooked by the spectacular hilltop church and the mausoleum of the Dashwood family. (Underneath the hill are the notorious Hell Fire Caves!)
This could also be the ideal occasion to give your Victorian costume an airing!
No food or drink is available at the ground, so personally organised picnic lunches and teas are the order of the day. There is plenty of room along the boundary for deckchairs, rugs and picnic tables and awnings, and there will be ample time for lunch and tea, with the game due to end at or near 6 pm.
