November 16, 2012

The Society’s 2011 Film Evening will be held on Friday 16th November 2012. We will have the use of a restricted access open area on the mezzanine floor. Please note that access to the mezzanine floor is by a spiral “french” staircase only.

After the meal we will repair to St. Bartholomew’s Pathology Museum, Robin Brook Centre, West Smithfield, London, EC1A 6BQ for the Film Show, starting at 7.30pm. The nearest Underground stations are Farringdon and Barbican on the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City Lines or St. Paul’s on the Central Line.

Please note the new Film Evening venues:

6.00 to 7.15pm The Butchers Hook & Cleaver

7.30 to 10.00pm St Bartholomew’s

A cash bar is not possible during the film presentations, but the cost of the evening includes a glass of wine or soft drink.

The cost of the event if £10.00 per head for those not eating, and £26.00 a head for those joining us for the buffet.

Our host Matthew J. Elliott makes a welcome return. He is a scriptwriter well known for the US radio series “The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes”. Matthew provided the adaptations of The Yellow Face and The Three Students for the Society.

The “sound” portion of the evening is Sherlock Holmes’ Fatal Hour (AKA The Sleeping Cardinal). Made in 1931, this is Arthur Wontner’s first appearance as the Great Detective and one of the earliest Holmes talkies. For “vision”, we move into the world of animation as Holmes – voiced by Michael York and John Rhys-Davies, Holmes and Watson pit their wits against Moriarty (Malcolm McDowell)… with the help of a celebrated cat and mouse team in Tom and Jerry Meet
Sherlock Holmes. A fun way to bring the night to a close!

Applications should be sent to arrive not later than Friday 9th November.
