Cricket Match – Eton

May 26, 2012 @ 2:15 pm - 7:30 pm

The Eton Strawberries XI – Saturday May 26th 2.15pm at Eton College

The College extends a warm welcome to all members of the Society to this match. The match will start at 2.15pm and tea will be taken between the innings. No food or drink is available at the ground, so personally organised picnic lunches and teas are the order of the day. There is plenty of room along the boundary for deckchairs, rugs and picnic tables and awnings. Generous time is given for lunch and tea, with the game due to end at or near 7.30pm. Our hosts will confirm which pitch will be used nearer the date but it will be at Dutchman’s Four or Mesopotamia (Mespots). The match will very likely be at Mespots. Please view our website (www.sherlock-holmes.org.uk) or telephone 01787 211104 for confirmation. There is ample parking at both grounds and extra car parking is available at the Farrer Theatre, Common Lane – if required. To cover either playing field possibility, the Eton website shows a map of Dutchman’s at www.etoncollege.com/Matches.aspx?m=5446 and of Mespots (or Mesopotamia) at www.etoncollege.com/Matches.aspx?m=5413

Should the match be cancelled we will notify spectators with a notice on our website.

Directions – From London take the M4 and leave by Exit 5, signed Slough East and Eton B470. From Reading and the West leave by Exit 6 using the A332 to Windsor and Eton and follow signs to Eton. From Birmingham and Oxford on the M40, leave by exit 4 and follow signs for the M4 and then as above. The postcode for the College is SL4 6DW.

The match is confirmed for Mespots 2 (ie big Mespots pitch).

A few other things:

  1. As the master in charge of our opposition says: ‘There has to be a strict line on the boys and alcohol but your lot aren’t under my jurisdiction!’
  2. ‘It is possible to bring a car through to Mespots if you enter through Weston’s yard, drive by College Field, left under the bridge and round Chamber Field. However, it may be easier for those able to walk the short distance to find the Parade Ground and park there.?’
  3. 2.15pm start and 20 overs after 6pm with a 20 minute break for tea between innings.
  4. In terms of 1895 laws I think they will be happy to negotiate a couple of overs of underarm per innings.
