ALSo… The Journal of the Alliance of Literary Societies 2020 – “20:20 Vision”

You may be a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London– but did you know that the Society is itself a member of the Alliance of Literary Societies?
The Alliance of Literary Societies is the umbrella organisation for literary societies and groups in the UK. It was formed in 1973 and currently has around 125 member societies. The president is Claire Harman.
The ALS provides support and advice on a variety of literary subjects, as well as promoting cooperation between member societies. Each year it has a weekend event hosted by a different member society.
The 2020 issue of the ALS journal is out now. The topic this year is “20:20 Vision” – eyes and seeing in literature. The articles in this issue are:
* “The Art of Seeing: ‘The Horses’ by Ted Hughes” by Marty Ross
* “Looking Through Your Spectacles” by Rita Rundle
* “Poor Miss Finch and the Eyes of Wilkie Collins” by Andrew Gasson
* “The Singular Adventure of the Man With the Golden Pince-Nez: Eye-Glasses as Evidence in Dorothy Sayers’ Whose Body” by John Lingard
* “Verne and Wells: Travels to the Moon” by Linda J. Curry
