On Thursday 27 October 1994 members of the Society spent an absorbing evening at the Royal Institution of Great Britain.
The main purpose of the visit was to hear a talk given by Dr Bryson Gore entitled Chemistry is . . . Elementary. An illustrated transcript of the discourse delivered by Dr Bryson Gore now forms the centrepiece of this Society publication. To put the talk in context Holmes, Chemistry & The Royal Institution also contains a series of essays which assess the chemical work of Holmes, along with his relationship with the Royal Institution.
The book, co-authored by Dr Antony Richards, a former member of the Society’s Council and Dr Bryson Gore, is beautifully produced and illustrated throughout.
The cover has been reproduced from a specially commissioned watercolour by Douglas West.
“A truly absorbing many, many pipe read”
