This handbook is dedicated to the three adventures which feature Stanley Hopkins, the young Scotland Yard detective in whose career Sherlock Holmes took a particular interest.

The Handbook is formed around Bernard Davies's extensive research and arguments over the sites and properties associated with The Golden Pince-Nez, Black Peter and The Abbey Grange.

The three adventures cover issues ranging from whaling to nihilism, and Derek Hinrich, Shirley Purves, John Hall and Richard Lancelyn Green have contributed to our understanding of these subjects.

Richard added a bonus with rarely seen photographs from his collection including a shot of Conan Doyle during his voyage to the Arctic in 1880.
