William Gillette in Glasgow!
July 20, 2016 @ 7:45 pm - 10:30 pm
News from Barry Young, head of the Sherlock Holmes Society of Scotland:
Hello, hello, hello.
We're holding a screening of the 1916 William Gillette silent film Sherlock Holmes at the Glad Cafe in Shawlands at 7.45pm on Wednesday July 20th.
It's a free screening, but to cover costs we are soliciting donations in exchange for plastic calabash pipes, selling Watson moustache-shaped shortbread, and holding a raffle. Jacqui has kindly offered to bake the shortbread, Andy has acquired the DVD and pipes, and Al Burt has provided posters.
We should cover expenses with donations and the shortbread, so it would be wonderful if we could boost the Society's coffers through the raffle. If anyone knows where we might find good prizes, please let me know as soon as possible.
The main reason for the screening is to attract new blood, as we have lost a fair number of regulars recently, so please publicise the event to as many in
See you there,
The Scotland Yard Jack-in-Office
Even if you don't happen to live or work in Glasgow, you'll be welcome. The Glad Cafe (described as "the hippest joint in Glasgow" by wire magazine) is at 1006 Pollokshaws Rd, Glasgow G41 2HG.
