Hilarious Hound Haunts Halifax!
August 19 @ 12:00 pm - August 20 @ 5:00 pm
Small-scale productions don't come smaller than, er, The Smallest Theatre in the World, a division of the Grand Theatre of Lemmings! This fully functioning theatre sits on the side-car of an old Royal Enfield motorbike and seats just two whilst entertaining dozens of bystanders.
On the 19th and 20th August, the company will bring its production of The Hound of the Baskervilles to the magnificent Piece Hall in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
This beautiful Grade 1 listed building, the only survivor of the great Cloth Halls of northern England, reopens on the 1st August after a £19 million conservation and transformation programme. To celebrate, the Welcome Festival kicks off the first events season in spectacular style and heralds what's to come.
There are three weekends of free events, from the 18th August to the 2nd September.
On the 19th and 20th August the Welcome Weekend, packed with music, dance, comedy and theatre, brings The Piece Hall's courtyard to life with an array of colourful artists from around the world. Expect creative, spontaneous and downright silly performances.
Among others there are Circus Raj from Rajasthan; Curious Cargo by The Temperance Society, a prim and proper bunch, practicing restraint from fun and frivolity; Never Too Old by Frolicked, a cheeky Grandpa and a feisty Grandma who battle it out for your affections; Syrovy by Artizani, one of Europe’s most stylish street acts, combining traditional circus skills with a vaudevillian repertoire of routines and an eye for the surreal image; Grow Your Own by Fairly Famous Family, a green- fingered comedy duo who showcase their magic tricks; from razor-sharp lemon juggling to bunny escapology…
And of course The Hound of the Baskervilles by The Smallest Theatre in the World – Sherlock Holmes as you've never seen him before!
