THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES
24 October – 24 November at the Barn Theatre, 5 Beeches Road, Cirencester GL7 1BN
“The most popular of the Sherlock Holmes stories becomes pure comic bliss” The Stage
When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate, with a look of terror still etched on his face, and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street, with Dr Watson in tow, to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death, and investigate the ancient curse of the Hound of the Baskervilles.
Written by John Nicholson and Steven Canny for the hit comedy team Peepolykus, this version premiered at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds, UK in 2007, where it broke box-office records, before touring the UK and transferring to the West End.
On the 31st of October there will be a tweed-evening, with Sherlock themed cocktails, an opportunity to meet the cast, and a prize for the best tweed! Sponsored by Barrington Ayre
“Unites constantly inventive physical and verbal comedy with a cheeky respect for the original”
“A mad hilarity that will make you feel quite sane” Sunday Times
“The entertaining and agreeable play within a play adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles should be winning over audiences in regional theatres, summer stock and community theatres for some time to come.” Talkinbroadway.com
“The show strikes the silly-yet-dignified tone of vintage British sketch comedy — and suffice to say that by the end of the proceedings, both the scenery and what’s left of that fourth wall are as battered and tattered as a hellhound’s chew toy!” Asbury Park Press, New Jersey
“This side-splitting parody of the Sherlock Holmes story turns a tale of terror on the desolate moors of Victorian England into a mile-a-minute comic romp. The audience is kept in constant hysterics as the show’s three actors pile up one pun after another, and outrageous sight gags fly by at a rapid rate”. Sun Journal, Maine
Please be aware The Barn Theatre is an unsubsidised charity. To provide a full and comprehensive Box Office service we administer a £1.50 booking fee. This is applied PER TICKET as is customary throughout the theatre industry
